Calling Bullshit ...
Recently I saw a post on a fb group I'm part of - that while I adore the support and lifting up of women - this one post I have to go BULLSHIT about.
It's not a new thought by any means - but it's time to put a counterpoint out there.
You can name your disease - and that doesn't give it power over you!
Quite the opposite I believe. If you hide what you have to fight or live with in the shadows - then the disease symptoms can sneak up and SMACK YOU like Jethro to Tony D.
Talking about a disease - does NOT make it take over your body again!
OMG I wanted to get a little violent on this one. What the fuck? Who can imagine that saying "I had XYZ Disease " can in any way make your body think you have it again? It's not like the thought is hiding a pocket of that virus, fungus, disease away in your brain and it suddenly throws itself at your immune system for you to deal with all over again.
YOU BEAT THAT FUCKER! That means you have a type of near immunity - no it's not guaranteed - but anything you beat 100% once - you have the map on how to beat it again if you need.
I have Hashimoto Thyroid Disease and DISH
Okay - what that means is long term for me. Am I afraid of it? HELL NO. It's just part of my journeys story! I've undergone 22+ surgeries and procedures in 17 years dealing with the side effects of these autoimmune illnesses. I still laugh, smile, live, enjoy life! How I face each event related is "I will be better after - I will have no pain, I will regain X, I will have a new story to share, a new chance to share my journey with others".
Guess what - while not every surgery went perfect - I LEARNED from each and now have more potent stories to share. More information to pass on in what to avoid or what to do! This helps others that are new to having a disease journey to walk. Sometimes I have answers - sometimes I don't. But I can always find a connection of understanding!
DON'T BE AFRAID OF TELLING THE STORY OF YOUR JOURNEY
Sharing our journey - can help shine hope into a life where others may feel only desperation!
What doesn't kill us makes us stronger - CAN be our motto <grin>
I'm here to have fun - no matter the body that I live in!
The tests are to make me a better teacher not to make me perfect.
Huggs and Abrazos to the brave souls that share the story of their journey!
Thank you for being an inspiration, a beacon of hope and for living in the light.
Watching the world go by
Driving home across Mexico - we were passing through a small town - when here on a rise just off the highway - yes, on the lateral- were 2 men in butchers aprons - sitting chatting overlooking the flow of traffic.
I was struck by memories of going to the airport on Maui (Hawaii) as a kid to watch the people!
"Where are they going? Where have they been ? What's that in the back? Wow what were they wearing that for? Did you see what they were driving?"
And then cut in images of a barn yard - the cows are lining up for milking.
The guys have all gathered around with fresh grated cacao and dash of coffee and a helping of alcohol to have their "milk" for the day <grin> You have to understand that the alcohol is most often moonshine - and they'll tell you they are not drinking - it's to sterilize the milk <giggle>.
When I hear one of the cows say to the other...
"Where were they going? Where have they been? Whats going on with the bull? Think he'll get lucky? Where's he going ? Who do you think they'll meet when they get there?"
Now as the instigators of this whole sideways line of thought were butchers on the bypass .. you'll need (for now) to put on your visual creative genius caps and follow along on the cows narrative.
Where are they going? - picture a meat plant
Where have they been? - Picture big open pasture full of girl cows in dancing girl costumes
What going on with the bull? - Insert picture of bull dreaming of dancing Swan Lake in a bright pink tutu
Think he'll get lucky? - keep seeing that bull dancing Swan Lake - every idea of lucky is different lol
Where's he going? - picture a side of beef
Who will he meet when he gets there? - Picture 3 chickens hanging on the line next to the side of beef.
yes yes I know .. sick humor <GRIN> but you laughed didn't you!
I know what that tastes like...
Can you hear it?
Welling up in you like a warm summer wind full of new cut grass and fresh baked bread.
When you see that child with the corn dog - dripping with red and yellow - you can recall the taste of the mouthful - the sweetness of the breading and the tang of ketchup. The music playing in the background accompanied by the laughter of children, the special rattle of a roller coaster, the cacophony of sound that is so special to the arcade of the fairgrounds and carnivals.
You can add in the special sweet spiral of spun sugar - in it's robins egg blue and princess dress pink.
Can you feel it ?
The full blown boom and crash of the ocean as you hold that long lost seashell to your ear.
That special wind - bringing the taste of salt and sun and sunscreen.
The call of gulls - or just the lap of water on sand.
The caress of water as you slip beneath the waves in search of treasures of nature.
Pieces of shells & sea urchins.
Fish the colors of the rainbow - or subdued to the point of disappearing when they turn just a fins width away from you.
Turtles sleeping - wedged within the crevasse of coral and sand.
That long undulating call of whales beneath the waves.
Taking you back to a simpler time before death came to claim a piece of yourself.
Ah there they are ...
Those forgotten snippets of memory - showing up in the unexpected way that memories have.
Cavorting to the foreground of our mind from behind the forgotten corners.
Sweeping aside time and space as if they were things of gossamer - for that is what it is.
Time and space is made of finer things then gossamer - it's fragile and strong - tied together with the same silken fluff of space and stardust.
Hello old friends brought to the surface by split seconds of time today.
would be an extraordinary life ?
Okay .. COOL !
but did you hear life whisper - it's okay to just be Extra Ordinary!
Oh Wait .. no I wanted a life that was EXTRAORDINARY !
Ah says life .. so go ahead!
Oh Wait .. no it's supposed to be delivered to me fully formed!
Ah says life .. too bad.
Oh Wait .. you're telling me....?
Ah says life .. YEP !
Oh Wait .. really?
Ah says life - You have to MAKE IT EXTRAORDINARY ! Otherwise you have to be willing to be happy with extra ordinary.
Oh Wait .. when can I do that?
Ah says life .. now is as good a time as any! GO!!!
Enjoy the experience of the road to ExtraOrdinary!
Now don't interrupt ...
Isn't it interesting how often as children we hear that.
"We're talking - don't interrupt".
But that is what life does! It bumps us and jars our brain. It pushes itself into our vision and begs us to listen.
We've not been taught how to listen - we've been told that talking is more important.
No don't interrupt ...
But if I don't - YOU WILL MISS IT life yells.
Okay - so maybe we needed to get shaken awake.
To hear "it's NOT about you! It's all about the experience"!
LET YOUR LIFE INTERRUPT! Oh Please please let it interrupt.
Let it shake you until you figure out it's teaching you to dance!
Let it rock you on your heels - so that you see the stars!
Let it stop you in your tracks - so you can be mesmerized by the sunset!
Let it collide with you at full tilt - so you can experience LOVE!
Let it interrupt what you thought you had planned...
SO IT CAN SHOW YOU WHAT MAY BE EXTRAORDINARY !
Thank you for letting me interrupt the life you had planned.
